Frequently Asked Questions

FAQS sheaFAQS shea
  1. Why is SheaMoisture/Unilever expanding into new product categories now?
    A:
Our communities desire products that not only make them feel good but offer personalized solutions to treat melanin-rich skin.
As part of our commitment to bringing the best solutions to our melanin-rich community, we’re expanding into new product categories like antiperspirants and SPF face creams.
Products like SheaMoisture’s antiperspirants offer dermatologist approved solutions while also addressing application concerns.
UV protection is important to the Black community. Although melanin provides protection naturally from UV rays, according to the CDC, Black Americans have significantly lower survival rates when faced with melanoma or skin cancer – with the 5-year survival rate of Black patients at 66% vs. 90% for non-Hispanic white patients.

  2. Did SheaMoisture change its formulas for existing products?
    A:
We have previously communicated formula upgrades to our core shampoos for a new and improved washing experience. The upgraded shampoos include SheaMoisture Jamaican Black Castor Oil, Manuka Honey & Mafura Oil, Virgin Coconut Oil, Raw Shea Butter, and Manuka Honey & Yogurt. To highlight the new and improved systems, consumers will notice that our bottles have an upgraded look with proven claims around the efficacy of the shampoo & conditioner systems on-pack.

  3. Does Shea Moisture test on animals? Why do SheaMoisture products no longer have PETA’s “Beauty without Bunnies” certification?
A: At Shea Moisture we do not test our products or ingredients on animals – this has not changed. We use a wide range of non-animal approaches to ensure that our products, and the ingredients they contain, are safe for our community. As part of our commitment to bringing the best solutions to our melanin-rich community, we’ve expanded into new product categories (including antiperspirants and SPF face creams), which require some ingredients that we have not used before.

Unfortunately, in recent years, these ingredients have been animal tested by suppliers to comply with regulatory requirements. We, at Shea Moisture, do not choose to work with these specific suppliers, but rather select those that assure us they have not conducted animal testing. Because these ingredients have public animal test data, and were not part of the Shea Moisture portfolio at the time of submitting our PETA application, they do not meet the stringent criteria we have with PETA to continue to call our brand PETA-approved.

  4. Is SheaMoisture no longer selling products on the website?
A: We will no longer be offering SheaMoisture products directly from our website as of April 2024. We apologize for any inconvenience. Of course, you will still be able to purchase the products you love online or in stores across the country. Our website will stay fresh with the latest about our products and how to pick the right one for you. Please note: any purchases you have already made will be fulfilled and any subscriptions moving forward will be cancelled.

  5. Where did my account go?
A: SheaMoisture products are no longer available to order from SheaMoisture.com and accounts have been deleted. SheaMoisture products are available at retailers everywhere and on Amazon.
